Introduction

Institute of Medicine offers a large number of academic courses in different disciplines of health sciences. At present it has got 7 constituent campuses and 16 affiliated colleges.

Maharajgunj Medical Campus

Majority of courses, ranging from Bachelor to post-graduate levels, are offered at Maharajgunj Campus of the Institute. Maharajgunj Medical Campus runs Six bachelor's level programmes (MBBS, BPH, B.Optom, BSc.MIT, Bachelor in Audiology Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) and B.Pharm), and 25 Post-graduate level programmes (MD Internal Medicine, MS General Surgery, MD Obs. and Gynae., MD Pathology, MS ENT, MD Anaesthesiology, MD Ophthalmology, MD Paediatrics, MD Psychiatry, MS Orthopaedics, MD Radiodiagnosis, MD General Practice, MD Dermatology, MD Cl. Anatomy, MD Cl. Physiology, MD Cl. Pharmacology, MD Microbiology, MD Biochemistry, M.Sc.MLT Microbiology, M.Sc. Cl. Biochemistry and MPH) courses. In addition, MDS Prosthodonics and Maxio Facial Surgery, MDS Peridontics and Implatology, MDS Conservative Dentistry and Endonentics and MDS Orthodontics and Dentofacial have also been conducted. M.Phil. Cl. Psychology,DM Cardilogy, DM Nephrology,DM Neurology, DM Gastrology, M.CH.GIS Surgery, M.CH. CVS Surgery, M.CH.URO Surgery, M.CH.Neuro Surgery and M.CH. Plastic Surgery, PHD in Microbiology and Public Health has also been conducted.

Nursing Campuses

Nursing Campus, Maharajgunj in Kathmandu offers Certificate to PhD level courses (PCL in Nursing, BSc.Nursing, BN (Bachelor in Hospital Nursing, Bachelor in Community Nursing, Bachelor in Psychiatry Nursing) and three programmes in Master in Nursing (i. Women's Health Development, ii. Paediatric Nursing iii. Adult Nursing), and PhD in Nursing. The nursing campuses in Biragnatar, Birgunj, Pokhara and Nepalgunj have Certificate Level and Bachelor in Nursing. Nursing Campus Pokhara is the only one campus outside the valley where BSc Nursing and MN Adult Nursing are running.

Ayurved Campus

This campus conducts BAMS (Bachelor Level in Ayurvedic Medicine) and MD Ayurved (Kaya Chikitsa) in its building at Kirtipur. 50 bed Ayurved Teaching Hospital has been brought into operation within TU premises.

TU Teaching Hospital

In addition to the various academic programmes, Institute of Medicine runs the most advanced tertiary health care facility in the country through TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. It has more than 500 beds and the state-of-the-art intensive coronary care and neurological units. A 70 bed emergency care services started at that premises of the hospital. With all facilities related to Emergency and mass injuries to the patient have been established at this hospital.

Manamohan Cardiothorasic Vascular and Transplant Centre

In the memory of late Prime Minister Man Mohan Adhikari, who died in TUTH, the Manmohan Cardiothoracic, Vascular and Transplant was established to provide excellent service training of highly skilled manpower and to conduct research activities in the field to cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and organ transplant. The OPD, indoor ward has already started and noninvasive cardiac service like Color Echo, TMT, ABP services and Cath Lab service CCU, ICU and full fledged OT services have already started.

B.P. Koirala Lions Centre for Ophthalmic Studies

In addition to the campuses and the TU Teaching Hospital, IOM runs B.P. Koirala Lions Centre for Ophthalmic studies. The Centre offers the most advanced eye care in the country. Besides conducting undergraduate and post graduates courses, it gives training to students of MBBS and B.Optom. (undergraduates and residents in MD Ophthalmology programmes). It is in the forefront of research in eye health.
