Institute of Science and Technology (IOST)
Institute of Science and Technology (IOST) is one of the main technical
institutes. It is also one of the oldest and largest in terms of the intake of
students, the number of campuses with programs in science. Teaching/learning
program in science at the level of higher education has the national history of
more than eight and half decades. Several schemes of improvement, plan and
policy and implementation in entire functions of science education have been
experiment. IOST in the present form has been the result of taking challenges
to prepare scientific manpower at all levels to meet the requirements of the
nation. Its curricula are at par with other universities at regional and global
levels. A large number of students also work on scientific research projects of
varied nature and at the postgraduate (M.Sc.) level.
The number of Ph.D. awards in different fields of science and technology has
been on the rise. Collaborative and exchange programs in science have a
priority. Every central department has linkage with national as well as
international organizations, academic institutions and ministries. Intake of
students at different levels of undergraduate and post-graduate education at
PCL, B.Sc, B.Tech, M.Sc, M.Tech
is 15000 per year. IOST has 13 central departments to improve academic and
research programs.
Vision and Objectives
IOST intends to create scientific culture to improve the
quality of life by promoting its departments as the centers of excellence by
setting up well equipped laboratories, skilled manpower, advisory
services in science and technology in close collaboration with national and
international agencies.
IOST promotes science education with the following
objectives:

to enhance moral
values;

to provide higher
education;
·
to create facilities
for research in science and technology in priority areas;
·
to implement and
introduce new subjects of science and technology in different appropriate
departments;
·
to develop highly
skilled manpower and to enhance the strength of national human resources;
·
to mobilize
resources for development;
·
to enhance programs
of international linkage for training, research and development, improving the
status of poverty by using indigenous and local technology, etc.;
·
to organize
seminars, workshops, conferences at all levels, and
·
To publish the
findings of research in Journal of Science and Technology, (JIST) of IOST.
