Institute of Forestry

 

 

 

The major objective of the Institute of Forestry is to provide the graduate students with advanced training in forestry, natural resource conservation and management. Additional responsibilities of this institute include forestry research and the development of technology suitable to Nepal. At Present IOF have three Projects: Danida supported ComForM, NUFU, and Project (NORAD Supported) and Asia Link Sustainable Livelihood Project Supported by European Commission. The overall objective of the projects is to enhance the capacity of teaching and research at IOF. The Asia link project is to develop the institute facilities, training facilities/ staff in e-based learning and developing Network and linkages with European & Asian Universities to ensure quality of teaching and research. The Institute offers the following academic programs:

 

·        Technical Certificate Level (TCL) in Forestry of 2 years.

·        Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Forestry of 4 years.

·        Master of Science (M.Sc.) of 2 years.

a)      Master of Science in Forestry

b)      Master of Science in Watershed Management and

c)      Master of Science in Natural Resource Management and Rural Development.

 

·        Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Forestry.

 

The Institute has two campuses - one at Pokhara and the other at Hetauda. The campuses of the Institute of Forestry have facilities of laboratories, woodlots, arboreta, horticulture research farms, computer centres, etc. The library at Pokhara Campus has a TREECD Database system. A Museum-cum-Library and Documentation Complex are at Hetauda Campus.
